Pentagon officials announce that retired Adm. John Poindexter, the man behind plans for a "terror futures" market, will step down from his post. U.S. Growth Accelerates

U.S. economic growth accelerated in the second quarter of 2003, the Commerce Department says, with the nation's gross domestic product up at an annual rate of 2.4 percent. Bremer on Iraq Elections

U.S. civilian administrator Paul Bremer says democratic elections could be held in Iraq within a year to replace a U.S.-appointed governing council. CDC Urges Spraying to Combat West Nile

In an effort to stop the spread of the West Nile virus by mosquitoes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage local communities to spray pesticides from trucks or aircraft. Lawmakers on Sept. 11 Report

A bipartisan effort is underway in the Senate to overrule President Bush and declassify portions of a congressional report that suggest a possible Saudi link to the Sept. 11 attacks. Leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee plan to review the 28 pages with the CIA and FBI. And Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) circulates a letter urging Bush to release the information.
